Alicia Sacramone fell off the balance beam last night. She’s a really pretty girl, and at 21 is an actual adult, unlike the 12 year olds China passed for 16. Anyway, Alicia is hot and freaking talented.
But what am I bitching about here? Well I’m pissed about the olympic’s coverage of her fall. She was visibly upset, to the point where she was holding back tears. Give the girl a minute! I’m sure the nation felt for her, and some assholes may have had the nerve to boo her or say mean shit about her.
Well fuck those guys, and fuck the coverage of her teary-eyed recovery.
The live late-night coverage of the Olympics showed poor Alicia getting hit with obnoxiously direct questions regarding her performance by Andrea Joyce. Ms Joyce basically referred to Sacramone as a failure. The girl is among the top gymnasts on the planet, and she’s a failure because she made a human mistake? Thanks Andrea Joyce, way to make America a better place.
WKEN, a radio station in New York’s Hudson Valley, wrote on their blog-style updates regarding the Olympics, “It’s no wonder NBC late-night host Mary Carillo cringed while coming out of the report, saying she felt for Sacramone as she would for her own children. “That’s why some people raise chinchillas (instead of children),” Carillo joked, trying to lighten up the moment.”
I’m not sure that she was trying to lighten up the moment, or if she was just genuinely pissed off that people raise kids to be gymnastics/ice skating/*insert sport here* machines.
